Reluctant Journey

Sail boats, motor boats, kayaks and sculling boats, passing each other on a glistening lake

Freshly picked blueberries and cherries, baked into cobblers and pies

The sound of a blue grass band playing on the veranda

Friendly games of volleyball, croquet, and bean bag toss

Half mile swims across the lake and back, followed by peaceful naps on the beach

The glow of the full moon spotlighting the cottages below

Picnic tables covered in morning dew, lined with last night’s empty cups and bottles

One final flight on a sea plane, gazing down on this heavenly place

Lingering over the last  pages of a platitudinous  novel, as if to make the vacation last a little longer

The laughter of the week still fresh in our minds, as we begin the reluctant journey back to reality.
